State Food Testing Laboratory, Meghalaya has been selected as a COVID response Team by the Directorate of Health Services, Government of Meghalaya to tackle COVID-19 pandemic. The team was led by Dr (Mrs.) Wadamika Lyngdoh (Microbiologist), Dr (Miss) Maxilline Marak, Dr (Mrs.) B Thangkhiew (Pharmacologist) and all officers & staffs of the Microbiology unit. This Team was the first to start with ‘Alcohol based-Hand Sanitizer’ namely ‘Safe & Effective’ in the State of Meghalaya. The purpose of the COVID Response Team is to cater to the urgent requirement of the state during the stringent times where sanitizers in the state of Meghalaya is running short and there is no availability of sanitizers in all healthcare centers including public areas. Such initiative and innovative idea was encouraged by Dr. N. Wanswet, Director of Health Services (Research) under the supervision of Dr A. War, Director of Health Services (MI) and other experts in line with the standards recommended by the World health Organization (WHO). The Sanitizer unit at Pasteur Institute was launched by Meghalaya Health minister Shri. A. L. Hek on the 4th of May 2020.
